Homeopathic remedy sales up by 33% in last five years 26-07-2005, 2:58 pm
The market value of homeopathic remedies has grown from £25 million in 1999 to an estimated £32 million in 2004, according to a recent market research report by Mintel. In real terms this represents growth of 33% in this sector. The report noted that although homeopathy sometimes attracts negative press, this has not put consumers off, and sales of remedies ‘have shown steady growth’ over the period 1999-2004.
The complementary medicine market as a whole was valued at £147 million last year, showing an overall increase in value of 45% since 1999. The report also found that 33% of consumers have used some form of alternative medicine and would do so again, and that 37% of adults would like doctors and pharmacists to recommend alternative medicines more.
