Faculty of Homeopathy e-news

The Faculty's e-news bulletin gives you the latest news, information and reminders as well as details of upcoming events and local group meetings.

Message from our new President

At the AGM in January Dr Sara Eames was elected as President of the Faculty. She replaces John Saxton, who we thank for the valuable contribution he has made over the last three years. Sara is Education Director and Head of Women's Services at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital.
I feel honoured to have been elected Faculty President and in these troubled times I hope to be able to make a real difference. I would like to see the Faculty far better known so that all professional and media organisations automatically contact us for opinions and information. Any ideas and help in achieving this will be most gratefully received! sara.eames@uclh.nhs.uk

DH confirms “inappropriate” use of the NHS logo
The Department of Health has confirmed that the use of the NHS logo on the document “Homeopathic Services” was unauthorised and “inappropriate”.

This document, which looked like an official NHS board paper and was in effect a pro forma decommissioning document, had been the subject of great controversy following its circulation to all PCTs last May along with a letter from Professors Born, Baum, Ernst, Colquhoun and others urging PCTs to stop funding homeopathy.

The DH issued its statement confirming that the NHS logo has been used inappropriately on 25 October, for the attention of all directors of commissioning. Lord Darzi also confirmed this in response to a question in the House of Lords and said the department had “provided clarification and advice on the use of the National Health Service logo to those who originated the document”.

Please be sure to draw this DH statement to your local PCT’s attention if you suspect that they have been influenced by this document. download DH statement here.

Bali email warning
A number of members and other homeopaths have reported receiving an email from someone travelling to Bali who does not intend to have any vaccinations and is asking for a travel kit with remedies for malaria, typhoid, hepatitis etc. We think this could be part of another attempt to discredit homeopathy. If you receive such a request, please let us know by emailing
sbuckingham@trusthomeopathy.org.

Darzi review of the NHS: have your say!
All members are encouraged to take part in the consultation on the two major reports on the future of healthcare being produced by Lord Darzi. The report for London is already out for consultation and the one for the whole country is due to be published in June (an interim report is already available).

Consultation events are being organised around the country and this is a real opportunity for us to demonstrate how homeopathy meets all Lord Darzi’s criteria. Please take a look at the proposals and make a response! Encourage your patients to do the same too.

MP support for homeopathic hospitals
David Tredinnick MP is hosting a reception on 4 March for the 206 MPs who signed the Early Day Motion in support of the homeopathic hospitals, in order to raise the profile of the campaign to save the hospitals.

He is also speaking in an adjournment debate on 19 February. RLHH has sent a briefing to all MPs known to be supportive.
